The "Eight and a Half" exhibition unites 12 artists of contemporary art of Kazakhstan. The dialogue that each participant has with the viewer differs in its approach and language, all this comes together and appears to be a variety of the creative spectrum. Who is she, a modern artist of Kazakhstan, what drives her, what difficulties does she experience, what does she strive for? 1, 2, 3 and "play" you plunge into the world of endless fantasies, even the real becomes mythical, gender leaves, finances are not important, social is "pushed aside", art remains. The exposition presents the works of artists who have already conquered sophisticated art connoisseurs, and artists who are conquering the art scene.
The series "Kazakh Tales", by Zitta Sultanbaeva, where the male line of these images is loaded with a historical context, and the female line remains timeless, almost divine. Female images with a bird's egg "Kumai" from the series "Kazakh fairy tales" and "Grandmother with a fan" from the series "Eggheads on the conveyor of time" move the viewer in time, when all album photographs were fitted to an oval shape, which caused an association with the shape of the egg from the artist. Time, as always, is playing its jokes and now Instagram is giving us new rectangular-square shapes, we can speculate what face shapes and associations we can have over time.
The author refers to the beloved Kazakh legendary tale about the bird "KUMAI", which lays twelve of its white eggs on the 12 branches of the world tree. And then, when she flies off to feed, at night, the serpent Azhdahar crawls onto its trunk, which, in turn, devours one egg after another. This image spawned the series "Eggheads on the conveyor belt of time", in the center of the exhibition, which was the object of the EGG.
“As a symbol of life, it is found among all peoples of the world - such a universal archetype. And I decided to play with him in my works. The egg is white, oval it fascinates me! at the same time it looks so much like a face,” says Zitta. Female Faces clothed in an egg are the image of beautiful brood hens hatching their eggs. Such is the cosmic cycle.
Video art by Tolkyn Sakbaeva is more than an image of a bandaged and suspended artist, it is a dialectical issue of freedom and constraint of each person, pressure from outside and from within, the relationship between the personal and the social. The author examines the topic of female sexuality in a modern society with an acutely patriarchal heritage. The pictorial painting «sexual healing» monumentally reflects the moment of the author's rest in a half-naked image.
Asel Kenzhetayeva's aesthetics are conveyed by her paintings, the artist's perception of the world of women, where each is beautiful, unique and special, she combines feminine subtlety, striving for beauty and at the same time, clear open eyes convey the courage and strength of the heroines of her works.
Collages of young Daria Temirkhan immerse you in the world of fragments, where scattered memory, framing what he saw, collects new ideas. The author uses a collage technique, collecting pieces of words and images from magazines and newspapers into his own story. Daria explores the Kazakh language as a means of creating new archetypes among the younger generation, enriching images with antique plastic. At the opening she presented the performance "Sun Valley", where a children's game of "classics" was drawn on canvas. The author, with bare feet, placing them on a palette with colored paints, jumps from one division to another, thereby leaving his mark and striving to reach the "solar semicircle" ...
Gania Chagataeva shares travel notes, unusual, they capture not a statistical image of what he saw, but feelings before what he saw, his own impressions and reflections, while creating a completely different picture. With her monotypes, Gania, sometimes composing with calm and harmonious colors, and sometimes with contrasting geometric intersections of colors, creates a new sound of the blues. A series of paper plastic is as fragile as it is mesmerizing, creating an open optics for a new gestural appearance of spatial art objects.
The photo-art of young Aurelia Akumallaeva is like a black universe that absorbs the eye and soul, hypnotically leading you into another space, where you can get to know yourself again, in your newly discovered space. The author invites the viewer to share his feelings and reflections on the blank sheets of paper left before the works. The artist's video art statically forms the dynamics of the movement of sea waves, with which the author covers himself with paints on his body, reminiscent of the human circulatory system.
Pictures of the Energy series by Ekaterina Nikonorova lift you up with a powerful whirlwind and transfer you to a completely different space of the elements, beyond the control of man, and upon further acquaintance, anthropomorphic images begin to appear. Graphic works resemble X-rays, somewhere of the soul, and somewhere the womb of a mother expecting her baby. A certain look from within, sweeping away the shell and rejecting everything material and physical.
Stylization is a characteristic handwriting of Alexandra Kalacheva, the harmony of her works refers to the eternal. In search of harmony, the artist experiments on canvas with various techniques. On the diptych "He and She", there is also an eternal theme of the search for harmony in the relationship of opposites. As a symbolic medium, Alexandra resorted to wax.
Quietly and calmly, with tenderness and softness of lines, Moldir Sagyndykov plunges into the warm atmosphere of his paintings. The artist explores the theme of motherhood and female beauty in her works. All lines and images are streamlined, feminine. They invite the viewer to share a moment of tranquility of being.
Munisa Guliyeva sets her own rules in her art, her portraits are emotional and expressive, she seemed to look inside and brought out a sincere portrait, passed through her own emotions. The artist explores oriental images at the intersection of modernity.
Whether artistic expression pushes the boundaries of censorship, is it allowed more, let's reflect on painting in the nude style, Bakhyt Bubikanova. Why are images of naked bodies still censored by morality, what does the viewer actually feel, pushing aside social dogmas?
Installation Sheker Shakir appeals to the viewer to become a part of the world of shadows, unfilled matter, conveying only contour and faint color. "Hanging" over the play of light, film, and shadow, you can catch yourself in the middle of a hypnotic wandering in thoughts and arguments about the meaning conveyed by the artist. "Psychedelic" video art takes you into an endless loop of traditional patterns.
The collective exhibition presents more than 25 works of art in various techniques and genres: painting, graphics, installations, paper plastic, photo, and video art.
